Global Telecom services spending to increase to $1.7 trillion and telecom equipment up 7%

In its latest forecast report on IT spending, Gartner states there will be an increase across the major IT sectors in Worldwide spending, with the telecom sector leading the way.

Spending on IT products and services is expected to reach $3.8 trillion in 2012, a 3.7% rise from 2011 when spending totalled $3.7 trillion which had in turn risen by 6.9% from 2010.

With analysis on the five major sectors of worldwide IT spend which included Computing hardware, Enterprise Software, IT services, Telecom Equipment, and Telecom services, the latter had by far the largest share of spending at $1.7trillion.

Though slightly lower than previous projections of growth, Gartner forecasts that spending on telecom equipment will see the greatest growth at 6.9 percent, followed by enterprise software at 6.4 percent. Spending on computer hardware will rise by 5.1 percent.

Though still in relatively good health Gartner blamed a variety of reasons for the lower outlook across IT as a whole reported Cnet. "Faltering global economic growth, the eurozone crisis, and the impact of Thailand's floods on hard-disk drive (HDD) production have all taken their toll" Richard Gordon, research vice president at Gartner, said in a statement.

However, despite global uncertainty the IT and more particularly the telecom sector is showing favourable forecasts across the globe. As more businesses choose to upgrade their telecommunications to allow for greater unified communications, adopt cloud communications and fixed mobile conversion the sector will continue to grow and innovate. Furthermore this growth in the telecommunications services and telecommunications equipment sectors can only be good news for the UK which is a global leader in telecommunications services.
