London Free WiFi Zone boost for Mobile VoIP

Mobile VoIP users in London have been given a huge boost with the prospect of free London WiFi offered by the mobile network O2.

Mobile operator O2 is launching Europe's largest free wi-fi zone across the boroughs of Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea later this year which will provide free internet to "millions" of London residents, tourists and visitors in central London.

Mobile VoIP usage is in the midst of substantial growth says reports. NPD In-Stat state that people using their mobile phones to make VoIP (IP Telephony) calls over wifi has risen from 9 million in 2010 to 29 million by the end of 2011 - a massive increase of 222% in 12 months.

This increase is down to three significant factors; the proliferation and the connectivity of smartphones such as iPhones, Androids and Blackberry, the greater penetration of wifi, but most importantly the growing breadth of offerings of telephone providers such as Voicenet Solutions.

   

Telecommunications Industry Revenue to Reach $2.7 Trillion by 2017

Further to our report stating that Gartner expected a rise in the telecoms sector another independent body has stated that the industry is set to grow even further.

Market analysts, The Insight Research Corporation states that the global telecommunications industry will continue to expand as spending by consumers and businesses for wireless services fuels industry revenue growth. According to the market analysts services revenue on a worldwide basis in the telecommunications sector will grow from $2.1 trillion in 2012 to $2.7 trillion in 2017 at a combined average growth rate of 5.3 percent.

 

Global Telecom services spending to increase to $1.7 trillion and telecom equipment up 7%

In its latest forecast report on IT spending, Gartner states there will be an increase across the major IT sectors in Worldwide spending, with the telecom sector leading the way.

Spending on IT products and services is expected to reach $3.8 trillion in 2012, a 3.7% rise from 2011 when spending totalled $3.7 trillion which had in turn risen by 6.9% from 2010.

£100 Million Government scheme will benefit IP Telephony users

A significant uptake of business VoIP solutions around the world is predicted to take place over the next few years.

The latest report from market research firm Infonetics Research finds that Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is set to see a 17 per cent rise growth in the market in 2011, compared with 2010 statistics. The firm, which tracks releases of products and services in the telecom sector, said the hosted VoIP industry will be worth some $76.1 billion (£49.4 billion) by 2015.
